I'm meeting friends and making the rounds in Chelsea tonight so I want to highlight a few shows that I'll be going to:

I also want to highlight a solo show that opened at the Winkleman Gallery last week. My friend Rory Donaldson had a wonderful opening last Friday night and I encourage everyone to check it out. It just opened on May 2 and closes on the 31st of May so you have plenty of time. Below is an example of one of his photographs:

Here are two photos that Cary Smith (he is in the show, B&W work on the far wall) sent me from opening night of the "Gouache" show. The first shows the crowd at the end of the evening. The guy in the maroon shirt with his back to the camera is me, I'm talking to David Ambrose and Erick Johnson (both in the show). The second photo was taken earlier in the day, my work is on the far right - the very bright colored work. It was a great opening(very, very crowded). Geoff Young and Jeff Bailey did a great job installing the show, I am very pleased with how my work is installed. So Please stop by and see the show!

Mark your calendars, I will have work in this group show set to open February 15th. It is curated by Geoffrey Young and, as you can see, it will be shown in two galleries - Jeff Bailey and Andrea Meislin. I'm not sure which gallery will have my work but I will let you know when I find out.

I'm very pleased to be in such good company so I hope you can all stop by February 15th! I'll post a notice again in February.

Winter Season, Part II

It was a little crazy last week with all the openings but I want to highlight a few of the shows that I saw.

My good friend Warren Isensee at Danese Gallery. It opened last week and runs until February 8th.

Several friends are in the excellent group show at McKenzie Gallery titled "Geometric Abstraction". The show includes Don Voisine, Shari Mendelson, and Jennifer Riley.

My friend Christopher K. Ho is having a solo show at one of the best galleries in Chelsea; Winkleman Gallery

And also, on Saturday I attended the opening at Smack Mellon. My friend Gelah Penn has a terrific installation. Make the easy trek to Brooklyn, it is well worth it.

ELIZABETH FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS STUDIO CENTER is pleased to announce OPEN STUDIOS 2007. On October 18, 20 & 21, 2007 over 80 artist-members in the EFA STUDIO CENTER will open their workspaces to the public. Come see exciting and diverse work including painting, sculpture, printmaking, works on paper, photography, installation, video and new media. The EFA Studio Center is located in midtown Manhattan in New York City's historic garment district. Open Studios 2007 will mark the EFA Studio Center's ninth annual open studios event. EFA Studio Center continues its collaboration with the Fashion Center BID to organize the annual Fashion District Arts Festival. The festival will feature Off-Broadway theaters in the Fashion District and culminate in a neighborhood-wide open studios weekend. Last year, over 3500 members of the public visited EFA Studio Center during Open Studios 2006.

The EFA Studio Center is a pioneering visual arts program founded in 1998. The Center provides artists the rare opportunity to work within a professional arts community in Manhattan and in close proximity to the city's primary gallery districts. Members of the studio program include emerging, mid-career and established professionals who have exhibited widely in New York, the United States and abroad.

The EFA Studio Center, housed in a twelve-story building in midtown Manhattan, offers 82,000 square feet dedicated to 110 workspaces for visual artists. Haven't seen a lot of shows yet but I do want to recommend a few that you should go and see. After I make the Chelsea rounds I hope to have a few more.

The first is Matt Blackwell's show at Ed Thorp gallery. A terrific painting show, weird and original - take a look at Thorp's website, www.edwardthorpgallery.com, for more information. I also posted an image below.

The second is a group show at SIDESHOW gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It is called MATERIAL MATTER and is curated by kat Griefen. A few names you might recognize: Stephen Maine, Lucio Pozzi, James O. Clark and Don Voisine. It is a smart and beautifully installed show and I particularly like Stephen Maine's piece.

The other shows: "The Price of Nothing:luxury after The Real Estate Show" curated by Jason Murison at the EFA gallery on 39th street and Thomas Lendvai solo show at the Winkleman gallery (on 27th street).

The concept for the exhibition emerged from a consciousness of the history, architecture, and life of the Grand Bazaar, Istanbul.
